Loser: DK Metcalf

A terrific NFL Combine performance propelled Ole Miss wideout DK Metcalf into the first round conversation. The latest mock drafts had him going near the top of the first round with some projecting him as high as No. 4 overall to the Oakland Raiders. Not only did the Raiders pass over him at No. 4, but his stock plummetted.

Metcalf watched as eight wide receivers came off the board, two in the first round and six in the second. His teammate AJ Brown was scooped up by the Tennessee Titans. Meanwhile, Metcalf stood by and waited until the Seahawks traded up to selected Metcalf with the final pick of Round 2 to the Seattle Seahawks.

To some extent, it’s fair to say Metcalf was never a Round 1 player. While the media might have been hoodwinked, NFL teams weren’t fooled by the lack of collegiate production and lagging agility.

Metcalf remains a physical freak with Alshon Jeffrey-esque upside. He’s just going to have to work his way into the leauge on a much cheaper contract than he might have expected a few weeks ago.
