2019 NFL Draft: Winners and losers from Round 2 and Round 3
Winner: Wide receivers in the right spot
The run on receivers didn’t start until the middle portion of the second round but the fit was worth the wait. Several different wideouts found homes which should best facilitate their future successes.
The speedy Paris Campbell was never viewed as the most versatile of pass-catching prospects, but he won’t be asked to do much outside of his wheelhouse with the Indianapolis Colts. Campbell is going to line up opposite of T.Y. Hilton in single coverage and absolutely torch whatever corner is asked to slow him down.
With the off-field issues swirling around Kansas City, the addition of Mecole Hardman fills an immediate need. The benefits of having a generational quarterback are muted without some who can maximize his skills. Hardman might not have the same top-end speed of a Tyreke Hill, but he’s going to be a nice weapon for Patrick Mahomes.
The Arizona Cardinals gave their newly-minted starting quarterback another toy, selecting UMass wide receiver Andy Isabella. He and Christian Kirk, with veteran Larry Fitzgerald to guide the unit for at least one more season, give Kyler Murray plenty of options.
All three of these pass catchers were above-average prospects. Now they have the opportunity to jump into the elite tier quickly.
