NFL Draft: N’Keal Harry a steal for Patriots in first round
The New England Patriots once again came away with the steal of the NFL Draft, snagging Arizona State’s N’Keal Harry with the final pick of the first round.
New England’s desire for a playmaker at wide receiver might have been the worst kept secret of the offseason. They tried to trade for Odell Beckham and struk out on Adam Humphries in free agency. They lost Rob Gronkowski to retirement and Josh Gordon to off-field issues. The rest of the league had a good feel of what New England was after and let N’Keal Harry fall into their hands.
Harry is a wizard with his feet, an excellent route runner and a mismatch on the outside. He’s coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard season for Arizona State with 17 touchdowns over that span. He was incredibly productive with Manny Wilkins at quarterback and now he’ll be catching passes from Tom Brady.
This is a true WR1 and New England was able to secure his services for five years. Harry paired with Julian Edelman in the slot makes for a terrifying one-two punch, and all this coming from an offense which was efficient enough on the ground to win the Super Bowl. With no tight ends of value at this spot, New England simply grabbed the draft’s best pure receiver.
NFL teams are going to kick themselves when they see Harry on the field this fall. Rookie wideouts don’t make big splashes often, but Harry is in the right spot with arguably the best quarterback of all-time. He’s going to turn some heads and could just be the key cog to another Super Bowl run for the unflappable Patriots.
