NFL Draft 2019: Top 10 biggest steals on Day 3
By Shelbie Warr
Current and former Penn State players are shocked that Amani Oruwariye fell all the way to the fifth round. Most notably is former teammate Saquon Barkley who is simply beside himself that his teammate and friend fell this far, but he is surely excited for him to join the Detroit Lions.
Barkley even tweeted about it, completely shocked by the prospect. Oruwariye was shocked himself.
“I’m not going to sit here and think about what didn’t happen and what should have happened,” Oruwariye said by phone after the pick. “I’m just going to make the other 31 teams that didn’t take me pay when my opportunity comes.”
Oruwariye had a great senior year, finishing with 51 tackles, three interceptions and 12 passes defended. He won’t be an instant starter or anything as the Lions have two already locked into that position, including the man who Oruwariye models his game after: Darius Slay. He has a chance to make it into the rotation though and his head seems to be in the right place.
