Stanford Football: Redskins getting future star in Bryce Love
The Redskins took advantage of a poor senior season by Stanford football’s Bryce Love, but make no mistake, he’s a future star.
A year ago, the Redskins would have never been able to make something like this happen. They were able to wait until the fourth round to land Stanford football star Bryce Love.
If I told you after last season that Love would return for his senior season and still be around on Day 3 of the 2019 NFL Draft, you would have called me crazy.
Love was coming off a season where he rushed for 2,118 yards and 19 touchdowns on 8.1 yards per carry and he was considered one of the top running backs in that 2018 class. His decision to return was confusing, but he proved that he cared more about his Stanford legacy than getting drafted early in the NFL draft.
The talented running back took over for Christian McCaffrey and did a more than serviceable job and made fans forget about the Heisman Trophy finalist.
Now the Redskins have two talented young running backs which they’ve drafted in back-to-back years who will be the perfect replacements when Adrian Peterson retires.
Derrius Guice was a smart pick last season but can’t be total trusted coming off an injury and now Love was a value selection in the fourth round. He’s an explosive back at 5-10 and 202 pounds and although he had a nightmare senior season, he’s still the same guy who ran for over 2,100 yards as a junior on 8.1 yards per touch.
Washington got one of the best steals of the draft and only needed to wait until the fourth round. This kid is a future NFL star.
