After starring on Last Chance U, Malik Henry is quickly turning heads for Nevada football. Can he win the starting job for the Wolf Pack?

Remember Malik Henry? If you’re a fan of Last Chance U on Netflix, you’d argue that he was one of the more memorable characters.

Though he wasn’t part of the East Mississippi C.C. seasons, he was still one of those stars of the show that seemed to have a polarizing effect on everyone he encountered. He wasn’t always remembered for the right reasons, either. He was a smart kid who talked back to his coaches and didn’t take their instruction well, especially when it was critical.

But Henry had the talent. There’s a reason he was one of the top recruits in his class when he committed to Florida State. However, when the show ended, he had no offers.

Was it because of his attitude? Possibly, but it seemed odd that a kid with his level of talent wouldn’t get offers from a Division 1 program.

Where is he now? Playing for Nevada as a walk-on and competing for that starting job. In the Nevada spring game, Henry had an impressive performance, going 16-for-28 with 211 yards and a touchdown. He had plenty of zip on his passes and didn’t shy away from the deep ball — and it was fairly accurate.

Henry has earned rave reviews from his coaches and fellow players so far this spring and there’s a chance he could push for that starting job with the position wide open.

Could Henry become the latest Last Chance U star to go from zero to hero? He’d join Texas Tech’s Dakota Allen who was selected near the end of the 2019 NFL Draft this past weekend.
