In our takeaways from UCLA’s spring game, Patrick Jolly was singled out as a future star in the secondary after a strong showing.

Jolly was an overlooked member of the secondary heading into spring ball, but played himself into position to make the two-deep this fall. Elijah Gates and Darnay Holmes look like the team’s sure starters, but Jolly may have just joined the regular rotation thanks to how he fared this spring.

The freshman cornerback was all over the field during the spring game, breaking up a 60-yard bomb to the end zone and sealing a win for the defense. He broke up two passes at the end of the spring game and looked like a potential lockdown corner with plenty of eligibility remaining.

If you’re looking for one of the next breakout stars on an improving defense, you won’t have to search for long as Jolly looks the part.

Chip Kelly should be glowing about this kid’s progress as he’s surprised just about everyone.
