Alabama Football: Best player to wear each jersey number in Saban era
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football jersey rankings 96-99
No. 96: Luther Davis
Luther Davis was a rotational defensive lineman for all of his four seasons at Alabama. Whether he was in garbage minutes or important ones, Davis managed to get 47 total tackles and eight tackles for loss with the Tide from 2007-10.
No. 97: Lorenzo Washington
Lorenzo Washington played on the defensive line alongside Luther Davis. The difference between the two was that Washington got after the quarterback more as opposed to stopping the run. In three years, he managed to get 69 total tackles, 12 of them for loss and six sacks. These numbers aren’t perfect, but they’re definitely nice for a pass rusher.
No. 98: Mike Bernier
You probably remember hearing Mike Bernier’s name somewhere, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. He was Alabama’s punter last year after Delong struggled to start the season. Bernier never had a true chance before this due to the emergence of JK Scott as a generational punter. Bernier didn’t do amazingly as Alabama’s punter, but he also didn’t have to punt much due to Tua. In eight games of action, he 38 yards a boot over 25 punts.
No. 99: Raekwon Davis
Raekwon Davis did special things as a sophomore, but something didn’t click in his junior year. It might’ve just been that Quinnen Williams was stealing all the sacks from him. No matter what the case is, Davis has the traits to be drafted in the first two days without a second thought. However, he decided to return for his senior season, and he has a lot to prove. I expect him to be a key leader for this younger defense, and he should be able to add onto the 11 total sacks he has so far in his college career. Expectations are high for Davis, and that’s just the way he likes it.
