Oklahoma State football is looking to move in a positive direction and it started this spring. Which five Cowboys are trending up after spring ball?

Going 7-6 last season wasn’t exactly what Mike Gundy had in mind for Oklahoma State football. The Cowboys did, however, lose Mason Rudolph and had to come up with a solid replacement for him while the defensive continued to struggle.

Oklahoma State didn’t stop putting up points, ranking 13th nationally in scoring, but the defense was 97th in points surrendered. On top of that, the offense averaged 500 yards per game while the defense allowed over 450. It was a recipe for success on one side, but disaster on the other, leading to the up-and-down campaign.

But there’s more hope for 2019 and the pieces are falling into place after spring ball. There have been multiple guys who have stepped up to the plate.

Which Cowboys are trending up after spring ball?

In his third year with the program, Brock Martin looks to be facing his biggest opportunity to date. He had just six tackles as a redshirt freshman but looked like a budding star in the spring game.

The defensive line is young, which is a concern, but Martin could be a “veteran” presence as just a sophomore but he has the ideal size at 6-foot-4 and 242 pounds. He’s a strong-bodied end who has barely scratched the surface and if spring is any indication, he could become one of the best defenders on the team in 2019.

Martin and Mike Scott are looking to fill the role held by Jordan Brailford a year ago and they looked to take that next step this spring.

Is Martin ready for an expanded role? It seems as if he’s been groomed for this for three years now and is finally getting his shot.
