The Tate Martell era for Miami football hasn’t gotten off to the best start, but which five Hurricanes are trending up after spring ball?
After the season finished and Miami went into the offseason with plenty of unanswered questions, it seemed as if Mark Richt would be there to turn the 7-6 Hurricanes around.
But then he left the program suddenly, giving way to assistant Manny Diaz who had just taken the job at Temple, but decided to leave before it was official and rejoin the Hurricanes in a promoted role. It seemed like the perfect hire for the program and he got his first taste of the job this spring.
A number of Hurricanes stepped up to the plate and delivered this spring as potential 2019 breakout candidates and leaders while others (Tate Martell, we’re looking at you) struggled a bit.
Which Hurricanes are trending up after spring ball?
Heading into his second season with Miami as a redshirt freshman, former three-star defensive end Gregory Rousseau had high expectations, but no one really had his name prominently on the radar — at least no casual fans.
The 6-foot-6 monster defensive end showed out during the spring game and showed that he deserves more than just a minor role on the defensive side of the ball. He’s coming off a season-ending injury a year ago that may have forced his redshirt after he played in one game and had five tackles, but he drew some praise from coaches, teammates and even former players this spring.
Could Rousseau continue to stand out on this talented defensive line and live up to the distinction of “sack artist” in 2019? It seems he’s headed in that direction.
