Washington Football: 5 players trending up after spring 2019
It’s been a rocky career for Isaiah Gilchrist at Washington. He was buried on the depth chart and probably thought he’d never got an opportunity to start in the Huskies’ secondary but with all four starters from the 2018 Pac-12 Championship team’s defensive backfield off to the NFL, Gilchrist now has a chance.
Gilchrist had an outstanding spring and many believe he was the most improved out of anyone on the defensive side of the ball and showed the most potential.
The junior cornerback saw his playing time diminish as a sophomore, playing in just three games, recording two tackles. He was looking to prove himself as a potential starter this spring, and he did just that as the top performer from the Huskies’ spring game, picking off a game-high two passes and returning one for a touchdown.
It’s tough to get in the mind of a player who seems to be struggling with confidence, but he actually admitted that times got tough over his first few years.
Confidence has to be budding after a strong spring and he could find himself starting this fall.
