Myles Gaskin had one heck of a career with the Washington Huskies, but his eligibility had been exhausted after the 2018 season, following four straight 1,200-plus yard seasons. He’s a tough guy to replace, but if spring ball was any indication, Salvon Ahmed could be that guy.

Replacing Gaskin isn’t something that’s going to come easy, but Ahmed has the right mindset this spring and wants to top his career numbers of nearly 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons with the program.

Coming off the best season of his young career, Ahmed looked like the true No. 1 back this spring and after recording 608 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018, it’s his job to lose. He also caught 21 passes for 170 yards, making him a true all-purpose back for the Huskies and he could be one of the top breakout candidates in the Pac-12 for 2019.

Chris Petersen need not worry about the backfield post-Gaskin with Ahmed rising to the occasion — he even averaged more yards per carry than Gaskin in 2018. Keep an eye on Ahmed as he becomes a star in 2019.
