Clemson football keeps momentum with commitment of 5-star DE Myles Murphy

Clemson football will be playing without some of its best defensive linemen as they’re now in the NFL, but it’ll replace them with Myles Murphy in 2020.

The rich appear to keep getting richer as the reigning champion Clemson Tigers have added another stud in the 2020 recruiting class. That stud is Myles Murphy, the eighth-best overall player in the 2020 class at defensive end.

Myles Murphy is the second-best defensive end in his class, and he is the top recruit in the state of Georgia. As Dabo Swinney expands his recruiting pipelines, it will be huge for him to steal talent from states with top schools like Georgia.

Murphy is now the fourth five-star to commit with the Tigers, which is twice as many as any other team in the nation at this point. They have a strong grip on the first overall ranking among teams, and this pickup makes it even stronger.

Clemson of course will have to replace Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins, Dexter Lawrence, and Austin Bryant from the defensive line last year. Those players brought a veteran presence and a ton of talent to their championship team.

It will obviously be a year before this class gets to see the field, but they have found two studs in 2020 that will be the next pieces to a strong defensive line. Myles Murphy will come off the edge, and Bryan Bresee will clog up the middle of the line.

The Tigers have clearly prioritized defensive line in this recruiting class. So far, there are four defensive linemen committed to Clemson in this class, and we are still far away from having these classes finalized.

Clemson also recently landed DJ Uiagalelei, the top quarterback of the 2020 class. We’ve still got an entire year to go for these incoming seniors, but Clemson is doing a great job in locking some of these players early to get a foundation for this recruiting class.
