NCAA Football: 10 college football players who’d be next cover athletes

4. Grant Delpit, Safety, LSU
Grant Delpit will be the only defensive player on my board. Unless you keep up with SEC football or are already looking at 2020 NFL Draft big boards, you might not know who Grant Delpit is. Despite this, you will learn about him soon.
Shadowed by Devin White and Greedy Williams last year at LSU, Delpit remains a top defensive player in the SEC. He has coverage skills at safety, but he can also step up and ring some bells. He’s going to be talked about all season as the next product from DBU.
Delpit grew a lot as a sophomore, going from no sacks to five and one interception to five. He can make just about any play you need from a safety. He will also be in a clean LSU jersey, which would look nice on the cover as he changes from a No. 9 jersey to a No. 7.
LSU has tons of high expectations this year, and a lot of them fall on whether or not Delpit can step into the role he needs to as the leader of the LSU defense. He should be able to grow into a strong player, and I think he will ball with the Tigers this season. He will win awards, receive buzz as a defensive player for the Heisman, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a few Top Ten plays with his tackling ability.
