LSU Tigers: Rebuild DBU

LSU is always known for having a great secondary. They have produced players like Tyrann Matthieu, Patrick Peterson, and Jamal Adams. This season, they will have to replace Greedy Williams at corner. He was a lockdown corner for them last year, and his presence will be greatly missed.

You still have a couple of great pieces at defensive back. Kristian Fulton will return at the other corner position, and he will stay where he is. They also have Grant Delpit, the frontrunner for best safety in college football. Those two alone will be great pieces for the Tigers, but they will need another to fill in for Williams.

The good news is that LSU has recruited extremely well at this position. The question won’t be if the Tigers can find a good corner, it’ll be who. LSU recruited four corners in the 2019 class, including the top corner in the class Derek Stingley. He will add to the corner depth that they add every year.

The SEC is filled with teams that throw the football all around the field. To keep up, you have to be able to have corner depth to go up against those wide receivers. Whoever replaces Greedy Williams will have to go up against Jerry Jeudy in Tuscaloosa, along with plenty of other top receivers in the SEC West. It’s a tall challenge, but someone has to do it for LSU to be successful this season.

There are plenty of other needs that LSU has to fill, including Devin White at linebacker, but their season will live and die on the defensive back.
