Gary Patterson struck gold with Justin Rogers in the 2018 recruiting class but he only attempted, and completed, just one pass in his freshman season for one yard.

To say Rogers hasn’t even come close to what fans are expecting would be a massive understatement, but this spring may have helped him in the face for the starting quarterback job with senior Alex Delton.

The former four-star dual-threat quarterback from Louisiana was one of the top-60 recruits in the class and Patterson had to be excited about winning that recruiting battle with LSU. However, his status as starting quarterback is still under review, but he made up some ground this spring.

After a strong spring, there’s a belief that Rogers will be the starter when the Horned Frogs kick off the 2019 season against Stephen F. Austin. If that’s the case and he holds strong, maintaining that job, Matthew Baldwin may want to reconsider his transfer to TCU.

Fans are excited about the prospect of Rogers leading the offense and they have been for over a year now, but will this finally be his time to shine?
