In a conference without a ton of defense, players like CeeDee Lamb thrive. Don’t get me wrong, though. Lamb would be a star on any team in college football.
Lamb had 1,158 receiving yards as a sophomore, and he will be an even bigger part of the offense in 2019. Last season, Lamb played second fiddle to Marquise Brown for most of the season. With Brown no longer playing college football, Lamb will get the majority of the targets this year. He is definitely good enough to make the most out of his new opportunities.
One thing that will be different for the Sooners this season is the quarterback. In his first two seasons, Lamb caught passes from Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, two Heisman Trophy winners and No. 1 overall draft picks in the NFL Draft. This season, he will catch passes from Jalen Hurts.
Of course, Jalen Hurts has the potential to be just as good as either of those guys. After all, those guys improved greatly under Lincoln Riley, and Hurts hasn’t had the chance to be coached by Riley yet. Despite this, Hurts is more of a mobile quarterback, so he will have to become a stronger quarterback to make the plays that the quarterbacks before him could.
