Alabama Football Recruiting: 5 top post-spring targets for 2020 class
By Dakota Cox
If Alabama football wants to reclaim the top 2020 recruiting class, they will have to get some more stars. Where is Alabama recruiting setting their focus?
Alabama recruiting has always been at the top of the country. They get the five-star prospects, the three-star guys that turn into high draft picks, and everything in between. Head coach Nick Saban has both the talent to find diamonds in the rough and recruit that talent to the University of Alabama.
Ever since Saban stepped on campus, there has been a conveyor belt of talent heading into Tuscaloosa. Hats off to the coaching staff for developing that talent, but they recruit the best of the best. That’s how they usually get the top recruiting class in the country.
As always, Nick Saban expects to get the top class in 2020. However, there are a few things going against him. Ever since Alabama lost to Clemson in the National Championship game, Dabo Swinney has been recruiting hard. With coaches like Swinney, Kirby Smart, and Ed Orgeron in the southeast, it has become even harder for Alabama to have the top class.
Also, Tom Herman has brought Texas back to the forefront of college football. Whenever teams in the state of Texas are good, it becomes harder to steal recruits from that state. Also, Dan Mullen has Florida trying to come back as a top team in the SEC.
Add on the fact that Mario Cristobal is turning Oregon into a quality program, and he is looking to turn the state of California into a pipeline for the Ducks. All of Saban’s top states are getting quality recruiters coming after them, which means that he will have to vamp up his job.
If Saban wants to turn this class around and get Alabama back to the top of the team rankings, he’s going to have to land a few more players. Here are some players I expect to be at the top of the priority list for Alabama recruiting.
