Jacob Eason is ready to take over as the starting quarterback of Washington football. Exactly how far can he carry the Huskies?

When Jacob Eason joined the Georgia Bulldogs, many thought he would be the face of the Georgia Bulldogs. He was one of the top quarterbacks in his recruiting class, and Georgia was on the rise. However, an injury forced him to miss some time, and Jake Fromm took his place. Ever since, Fromm has been everything that people thought Eason would be for UGA.

After losing the starting job, Eason transferred to Washington to join the Huskies. They had a prominent starter in front of him, but Jake Browning was a senior and Eason had to sit out due to transfer rules. Now that his year-long suspension is over, he will become to face of the Washington Huskies.

Washington has a lot of hopes this year. They are only two years removed from a trip to the College Football Playoff, and they believe they have what it takes to get there. Just because Eason wasn’t good enough to steal his starting job back from Fromm doesn’t mean that he can’t lead Washington to the CFP. After all, Fromm is one of the best quarterbacks in college football. It’s not like he got benched by a scrub.

If Eason wants to carry Washington through their schedule, he will have to show a lot of progress from his freshman season. I think he can do it, though. He’s been working off the field, and this year off has given him a chance to learn the playbook.

If Washington wants a berth in the CFP, they’ll probably have to go undefeated. It’s hard enough for a team in the Pac-12 to get recognition needed to make the Playoff, especially if they take a loss to anyone. Also, Washington’s non-conference schedule is a joke. No matter what happens in the other four conferences, you can’t justify putting Washington in unless they beat everyone.

The toughest games Washington will play will be against Oregon and Washington State. Rivalry games are always tough, and Oregon has developed a lot under Mario Cristobal. However, I think that Eason has the talent to handle both of these defenses. Unless he just doesn’t develop as a passer, I don’t see Eason being the reason Washington doesn’t make the Playoff. He’s a good player, and he should be good enough to get Washington through their schedule.
