Mike Leach is an absolute college football genius. He knows how to win with just about anyone and even though he’s losing Gardner Minshew after one of the most successful seasons in Washington State history, he’s confident in what he has coming back.

The Cougars are returning seven starters on offense, six on defense and have yet another transfer quarterback looking to take the reins on offense in Gage Gubrud, a former FCS All-American.

In 2018, the Cougars got the better of the Utes in Pullman, 28-24, but don’t expect that same result this year as Utah returns a ton of production on both sides of the ball and figures to be in the running for a Pac-12 title until the end.

Gubrud will have a decent game against Utah, but it won’t be enough to overcome the hostile crowd in Salt Lake City and give Leach yet another signature win as Washington State head coach.

Zack Moss will have his best game of the season to this point, rushing for over 150 yards and two touchdowns while the offense will gain some steam heading into the meat of the schedule.

Final Score: Washington State 30, Utah 38 (5-0, 2-0)
