The Jake Browning era is officially over for Washington football, but the future is bright with Jacob Eason in charge. Can he lead the Huskies to the playoff?

Chris Petersen took over at Washington five years ago with the intention of turning the Huskies into a perennial contender, and he’s done just that.

The Huskies are consistently pushing for Pac-12 titles and they’ve eve made the College Football Playoff. He’s shown that he can lead Washington to the top, but can he get the Huskies over that hump? The 2019 season will be an intriguing one, especially with Jake Browning gone and Jacob Eason taking over after transferring in from Georgia.

Spring ball is in the books and we have a better grasp on the Huskies’ 2019 outlook, but will it be enough to push for another playoff berth?

Coming from the FCS, Eastern Washington is projected to finish first in the Big Sky and is a preseason top-five team from those ranks. Should that worry Washington? Well, it shouldn’t make them feel totally comfortable about the matchup, but it’s at home and FCS teams are still FCS teams.

Washington might have a closer game than it would have hoped, but the Huskies will take care of business and Jacob Eason will get his career with his new program off to a good start.

The defense will have a tough time stopping Eric Barriere through the air. No, it’s not for a lack of talent in the Washington secondary, but rather it’s a brand new starting unit which is just trying to gel and it’s the first live action they’ll see together.

Other than that, Washington will move on with a nice win and its sights set on a conference foe in Week 2.

Final Score: Eastern Washington 17, Washington 31 (1-0)
