Alabama football landed another piece in their recruiting class with three-star offensive tackle Damieon George. What does that mean for the Crimson Tide?

Alabama football has been in a tense battle with Clemson and LSU for the top recruiting class in the country. Both LSU and the Tide are far behind Clemson, but Alabama added another piece that might help their cause in Damieon George.

George is a three-star offensive tackle from Houston, Texas. He is the best offensive tackle in the class for Alabama so far, but the offensive line is always a position of need for the Tide, so I’m assuming they will get one or two more if they can.

Alabama will likely be without both of their offensive tackles after 2019, with Alex Leatherwood and Jedrick Wills both being juniors. There are other tackles on the team, but depth at that position is always a necessity for a championship team.

Another interesting piece of information with this commitment is that George is the teammate of Zachary Evans, the top running back and player in Texas. Zachary Evans recently released the teams still in contention for him to sign, and Alabama was one of them. Many believe that Evans and George want to be teammates in college, and they would have to do that at Alabama.

Now, Nick Saban doesn’t do package deals. He wouldn’t offer a scholarship for George just to get Zachary Evans to sign. The Tide staff certainly see something special in him, or else he wouldn’t have gotten an offer he can commit to this early. I wouldn’t be surprised if George got a ‘Bama bump in his recruiting rankings and becomes a four-star player by the time it’s all said and done.

George has been on Alabama’s radar for quite some time, showing that they really think he has the potential to be something special. They offered him a scholarship over a year ago, while most teams are just now learning how great he can be. It’ll take a while for all of the pieces to fall, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being a diamond in the rough for the Crimson Tide once he steps on campus.
