Iowa State football is one of those programs trending in the right direction, but which five players are making that possible after spring ball?

Matt Campbell has worked wonders on Iowa State football in the three years he’s been in charge, turning a once-dormant program into a solid Big 12 foe which doesn’t lay down for any opponent.

It all started a couple of years ago with a big win over Oklahoma on the road with Kyle Kempt as the starting quarterback and some of that magic carried over into the 2018 season with wins over Oklahoma State and West Virginia while finishing 8-5 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 action.

The Cyclones may be on the cusp of truly capturing a Big 12 title and defying all the odds, but it’ll need some under-the-radar guys to continue an upward climb after strong springs.

Which five Cyclones are trending in the right direction after spring ball?

Arnold Azunna emerged in 2018 as one of the top up-and-comers on the defensive side of the ball and there’s belief that he could play multiple positions for the Cyclones in 2019.

The junior cornerback could also push for the starting job at the Star position and may even spend some time on safety. That versatility is what makes him such an important piece to the puzzle for the Cyclones and I’ve seen him projected anywhere from starting Star to starting cornerback to backup safety.

Don’t overlook this kid even though he had just eight tackles and a pass deflection last season as he has all the talent and is coming off a strong performance this spring to be a major contributor for Matt Campbell and Iowa State.
