Texas A&M’s permanent cross-division rival, South Carolina has been an afterthought on their SEC schedule since the game was instituted. Will Muschamp has had a positive impact on the program in his time at Columbia, but Jake Bentley’s regression has this team in a quandary entering 2019. The one time NFL prospect has regressed, putting the ceiling for the Gamecocks’ season in flux.

Whether or not Bentley makes it this far into the season as the starter might not matter. South Carolina ranked 12th in the SEC in total defense last season and only seventh in total offense, and that was with Bentley leading the way.

The Aggies had one of their more lethargic offensive showing of the season against South Carolina in 2018, settling for five field goal attempts. It turned out their two touchdowns would almost be enough by themselves with South Carolina tacking on a meaningless garbage time score to bring the final to a seemingly competitive 26-23. It wasn’t that close.

Instability at quarterback and a roadtrip to an atmosphere of this magnitude will be more than enough to keep the Aggies perfect in their SEC series with the Gamecocks.
