Florida State Football: Tamorrion Terry not getting enough national respect
Tamorrion Terry was one of the top freshmen in the nation in 2018, but why is the Florida State football star still getting little recognition?
Florida State had one of its worst seasons in decades in 2018, finishing just 5-7 and missing out on a bowl game for the first time in 36 years.
Willie Taggart’s team had few bright spots as the offensive line was atrocious, Deondre Francois threw 12 interceptions and just 15 touchdown passes and Cam Akers had the sophomore slump of a lifetime, averaging just 4.4 yards per carry.
On top of that, the defense ranked 90th in scoring and 80th in total yards allowed. Nothing seemed to be going right for the Seminoles to start the post-Jimbo Fisher era.
There was, however, one bright spot on offense that stood out above the rest. Sure, Nyqwan Murray was fun to watch and D.J. Matthews finished second on the team with 42 catches, but Tamorrion Terry was one of the biggest breakout stars in the entire ACC as a redshirt freshman. He caught just 35 passes — third on the team — but led the team with 744 yards and eight scores.
Terry was the ultimate deep-threat for the Seminoles and took plenty of pressure off Francois under center. He had the ability to take a short pass to the house on any given play.
Standing 6-foot-4 and 197 pounds, Terry became one of the most exciting players in the conference but has still yet to earn respect on a national level, for some reason. Is it because he played on a mediocre 5-7 team last season with the No. 103 offense in the country? Probably, but if Florida State turns things around and gets to 8-9 wins in 2019, he could become a household name.
Soon we could be talking about Terry as a potential early-round NFL draft selection, but he’s going to need a repeat performance in 2019 — and he’s fully capable of that.
