Virginia Football: Bryce Perkins is the best QB no one’s talking about
Bryce Perkins is one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, but no one seems to be talking about the Virginia football star. That will soon change.
Virginia football fans know what Bryce Perkins can do.
The senior quarterback worked hard to get where he is today as one of college football’s best quarterbacks, but it seems like his hard work has gone unnoticed on a national level.
Not too long ago, Perkins didn’t know if he would play football again but he transferred from Arizona State to a junior college in Arizona and then picked Virginia after being the sixth-best dual-threat prospect in the JUCO ranks.
It didn’t take long for him to impress Bronco Mendenhall who was searching for the perfect dual-threat quarterback and Perkins happened to be just that. He was an accurate passer, which was a plus, as well as an elite runner from the quarterback position.
Perkins finished his first season with the Cavaliers with 2,680 passing yards, 923 rushing yards and 34 total touchdowns. He broke the single-season yardage total offense record at Virginia and is the most anticipated returning quarterback in over a decade. He completed 64 percent of his passes and had just nine interceptions in the process.
There weren’t many quarterbacks in college football who had his production and consistency and he led the Cavaliers to an 8-5 record with more ACC Coastal title aspirations in 2019.
But for some reason, no one is talking about Perkins as a serious Heisman candidate, which he certainly is.
Although he’s not yet a household name, he’s close to breaking out on a national level and if he can put up a fight against the likes of Notre Dame, Florida State and Miami, he could be a hot name heading into the 2020 NFL Draft.
The schedule is favorable for the Cavaliers and if Perkins plays to his potential again, they may surprise some people with ACC title contention.
