West Virginia Football: Breaking down QB battle for 2019
Trey Lowe III
I’m not sure how realistic it is that Trey Lowe III starts under center. He redshirted last year at West Virginia so he had a year to develop and he is a more athletic quarterback than the other two so he fits with Neal Brown’s offense.
Brown has had athletic quarterbacks at Troy that could run when need to. Anything is possible in a quarterback competition that has several unproven guys so it is worth mentioning Lowe III.
Below is a brief high school highlight clip that shows his athletic ability.
Takeaway
There’s no insider information or any scoop inside the program here, we are just basing our info based on the film that is available, which isn’t much.
Each quarterback has talent and each of them are playing big time division one football for a reason, but only one can start. Austin Kendall didn’t transfer to WVU to sit and from the outside looking in he seems to be the favorite to win the starting job.
If they were confident in Jack Allison they would not have brought in Kendall. However, each quarterback has a clean slate with new head coach Neal Brown. Kendall already had a clean slate transferring in, but this gives Allison as well as Trey Lowe III a new clean slate, too.
For whatever reason, sometimes all a quarterback or any player needs is a clean slate or a “re-do” if you will, to get back on track. What each quarterback has in common is lack of experience and being unproven under center. West Virginia fans are hoping by the end of the 2019 season that one of these guys has firmly established themselves as the starting quarterback and will continue the solid play at the quarterback position that West Virginia has grown to know.
