Kansas State Football: Hunter Rison era over before it even started
It didn’t last long, but the Hunter Rison era for Kansas State football is officially over after he entered the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday.
Kansas State fans were excited about the Hunter Rison addition before the 2018 season. The son of NFL legend Andre Rison transferred from Michigan State — where his dad played — to Manhattan to play for the Wildcats.
The Rison era in Manhattan is officially over, however.
According to reports, the sophomore receiver has entered the NCAA transfer portal just one year after joining the program.
Kansas State’s offense wasn’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard last year, ranking 48th in scoring and 71st in total so the addition of Rison was expected to be a huge one for the Wildcats. He could have instantly impacted that offense, especially with Isaiah Zuber and Dalton Schoen back as starters. He could have cracked the two-deep this season.
Losing the talented wide out from Ann Arbor, Mich., definitely hurts, but it doesn’t come as a huge surprise given that the coaching staff has changed up, going from Bill Snyder to Chris Klieman — though the offense is expected to be more exciting with the move.
Skylar Thompson is going to be just fine with the targets he has, but this was a kid who caught 19 passes for 224 yards as a true freshman for a 10-win Michigan State team in 2017.
The Wildcats are going to take a depth hit, but Klieman will find a way to make it work.
Tough to see the Rison era in Manhattan end before it even started, but he’s searching for the right fit and apparently Kansas State wasn’t it.
