Ohio State Football: 5 surprise breakout candidates for Buckeyes in 2019
By Daniel Smyth
For reasons unknown it took the coaching staff way too long last season to realize Shaun Wade was one of the best man-to-man defenders on the team. The coaches had him splitting time at safety and cornerback, but finally realized cornerback is his natural position.
Wade finished the season incredibly strong, tallying two interceptions in the final five games. He finished the year with three interceptions.
The five-star cornerback also showed he can hit with the best of them. As demonstrated by his two monster hits in “The Game”.
The Ohio State secondary was a major weakness for the team in 2018, however Wade proved to be one of the few bright spots.
Now Wade is expected to start the season opener for a secondary that has the talent to rebound.
Expect Wade to continue to show why he was a five-star recruit and potentially cement himself as a first-round talent.
