Georgia Football: Who can help replace Jeremiah Holloman?
By Dante Pryor
Georgia football receiver Jeremiah Holloman has been dismissed from the team, but who can step up and help replace the starter?
Stemming from an investigation of a 2018 assault charge, former four-star and junior wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman was dismissed from the Georgia football program.
In a story first reported by the Covington News, the alleged incident took place in April of 2018, but not reported until June 2, 2019. According to the police report, the victim was choked and punched during an argument after the 2018 G-Day game. Although the victim received six stitches, she decided not to pursue charges against Holloman.
Georgia Head football coach Kirby Smart gave the following statement:
“Jeremiah Holloman no longer represents the University of Georgia football program. We expect every member of our team to uphold the highest standards and values of the University of Georgia and Georgia football. It is disappointing when this does not happen.”
Holloman was expected to be the top option for Quarterback Jake Fromm after the Bulldogs lost Mecole Hardman, Riley Ridley, and Terry Godwin to the NFL draft. He was also the team’s leading receiver coming in to this season with 24 receptions for 418 yards and five touchdowns last year.
The receiver’s departure leaves junior wide out Tyler Simmons as Georgia’s most experienced receiver with nine catches for 138 yards. Hopefully for Smart’s sake, one of the young wide receivers will step up for the Bulldogs.
Georgia also brought in five-star wide receiver George Pickens, four-star Dominick Blaylock and four-star athlete Makiya Tongue. They also picked up Lawrence Cager via the transfer portal from Miami. He caught 21 passes for 374 yards and six touchdowns for the Hurricanes last year.
Georgia opens their season against Vanderbilt August 31 with a new top receiver to develop.
