After missing on AJ Henning to Michigan, Notre Dame football landed three-star wide out Jay Brunelle on Wednesday. What’s he bring to the table?

Notre Dame was having a disappointing week in terms of recruiting wide receivers, but it picked up a priority target in three-star Jay Brunelle from Massachusetts on Wednesday.

To begin the week, the Irish missed on four-star wide out Jalen McMillan who picked Washington and then four-star AJ Henning who committed to Michigan. Both could have been day one contributors for the Irish, but they got a guy who could be a redshirt early on but work his way into rotation in year two or three.

Notre Dame does stand to lose Chase Claypool and Chris Finke after the 2019 season and landed just two receivers in its 2019 class who weren’t as highly-rated as Brian Kelly would have hoped.

It’s safe to say the Irish needed a commitment from a kid like Brunelle to join a class with fellow wide outs such as Jordan Johnson and Clarence Lewis. The Irish will be reloading after losing two productive pass-catchers and each guy brings a different wrinkle to the offense.

Brunelle stands 6-1 and weighs in at just 200 pounds but he’s one heck of an athlete and will bring speed to the corps.

The Massachusetts-native runs a sub-4.60 40-yard dash and can get off the line of scrimmage quickly and stretch the field vertically. He’s going to be a speed guy in the offense and explosive with the ball in his hands.

While it may not be a four or five-star get like many Irish fans have come to expect in the College Football Playoff era, Brunelle is going to be a solid player for years to come.
