Arizona State football steals 4-star RB DeaMonte Trayanum from Midwest
Arizona State football and Herm Edwards dipped into the Midwest talent pool and landed four-star running back DeaMonte Trayanum.
Ohio State had to feel good about keeping one of the best running backs in the Midwest close to home, but four-star DeaMonte Trayanum decided to go with his heart which happened to be with Herm Edwards and Arizona State.
Ryan Day has done little wrong in his short time as the head coach of Ohio State, but letting Trayanum walk to the Pac-12 is a big hit.
This was a gigantic victory for Edwards and the Sun Devils as it brings a second straight four-star running back to Tempe, following Eno Benjamin last year. Last year’s freshman and former four-star running back broke out for the Sun Devils and that had to be an attractive instance for Trayanum who saw Benjamin get the bulk of the carries and rush for over 1,600 yards.
What was even more surprising was the fact that Trayanum was fresh off an official visit to Penn State and a week after an Ohio State trip, but he felt most at home in the desert.
So what kind of back is Arizona State getting in Trayanum? This tweet says it all.
Strength, athleticism and productivity — all three are desirable traits for Power Five running backs. He could follow Benjamin’s footsteps and become an uber-productive freshman, though he won’t get nearly as many carries.
Trayanum is ranked the No. 227 overall recruit and 18th-best running back in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports. The Sun Devils now have the fourth-best recruiting class in the Pac-12 after this major Midwest steal.
