Michigan State Spartans: Bubba Smith, Percy Snow, Lorenzo White, George Webster

The Michigan State Spartans have had quite an impressive existence, winning six national titles and posting over 700 wins. Despite producing 31 All-Americans, the Spartans have never had a Heisman Trophy winner, but that does not mean they have not had some special players in the history of their program.

Bubba Smith

Bubba Smith was going to play his college football down south, but with racial tensions the way they were, he ended up going to Michigan State. For Spartans fans, they have to be happy he did, as he would go on to be named an All-American twice, the 1966 Lineman of the Year, and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

George Webster

George Webster was an incredible athlete during his time at Michigan State, as he was big enough to play linebacker but fast enough to play in the secondary. Webster was a two-time All-American, playing a position called “roverback,”. The school retired his No. 90 and Webster is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Lorenzo White

A rare blend of size and speed at the running back position, Lorenzo White became the first back in Big Ten history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season. The 1987 Big Ten Player of the Year, White was a two-time All-American as a member of the Spartans. He would go on to be selected in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

Percy Snow

During his time at Michigan State, Percy Snow became an elite linebacker prospect, taking home both the Butkus and Lombardi Awards during the 1989 NCAA season. The Most Valuable Player of the 1988 Rose Bowl, Snow is currently enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. When it comes to linebackers to ever play at the school, he stands alone.
