Wisconsin Badgers: Ron Dayne, Alan Ameche, Barry Alvarez, Pat Richter
The Wisconsin Badgers have been a powerhouse in the Big Ten for years and have enjoyed 14 conference titles, as well as over 700 wins. Playing in one of the older stadiums in college football, the Badgers have produced 11 Pro Football Hall of Famers, while seeing two of their stars win the Heisman Trophy.
Ron Dayne
One of the more punishing running backs college football has ever seen, Ron Dayne set the NCAA record for rushing yards during his time as the feature back at the school. The second player in school history to win a Heisman Trophy, Dayne finished up his career with nearly 6,400 yards while posting 12 200-yard games. The school has since retired his No. 33 jersey.
Alan Ameche
The No. 3 overall pick in the 1955 NFL Draft, Alan Ameche was the first-ever Wisconsin Badgers player to win the Heisman Trophy back in 1954. A linebacker and fullback, Ameche set a then-NCAA record with 3,212 rushing yards and would go on to be the NFL’s Rookie of the Year in 1955. The winner of three NFL Championships, Ameche was also named an All-American in 1954.
Barry Alvarez
When Barry Alvarez took over at Wisconsin, the program had not had a winning season since 1984. When he left Wisconsin, he had turned them back into a powerhouse, thanks to his 15-year run as head coach. Alvarez won two Big Ten Coach of the Year awards, won the conference three times, and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
Pat Richter
Pat Richter was an outstanding all-around athlete during his time at Wisconsin, earning letters in football, baseball, and basketball. On the football field, Richter was an all-time end for the Badgers, earning two All-American nods, while being named to the Sports Illustrated All-Century Team. Richter is a member of both the College Football and Rose Bowl Hall of Fames.
