After hearing the comments by Terry Bradshaw, Sam Ehlinger and Texas football should have no problem getting up for the season opener.

A season-opening matchup with Louisiana Tech didn’t seem like an intriguing one for Texas football coming off a 10-win season and a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, but it got a tad more interesting on Thursday as Terry Bradshaw fired a shot at Sam Ehlinger.

When talking about the Week 1 matchup, Bradshaw didn’t hold back in his thoughts of Texas and how the program is always hyped with elite talent but never lives up to it.

And then he took a shot at Ehlinger, stating that “he ain’t that good.”

Bradshaw can talk because he’s played in the NFL and won big games, but when his former program (Louisiana Tech) has more 10-loss seasons (1) than 10-win seasons (0) in its history and is coming off an 8-5 season and projected by Athlon Sports to finish fourth in the C-USA West, it’s an interesting shot to fire.

Is he just trying to ruffle some feathers or does he truly believe this about Ehlinger, coming off a career season?

Either way, the Texas quarterback needs to use this as fuel to start a Heisman-caliber junior season on Aug. 31 against Louisiana Tech. He passed for 3,292 yards and 25 touchdowns with only five picks last season while completing 64 percent of his throws and rushing for another 482 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s pretty good.

Maybe Bradshaw is sick of the Texas hype or he was just watching a different quarterback all year.

Whatever happens on Aug. 31, it will either make Bradshaw look like a fool and turn him into a believer or give him more reason to bash the young gunslinger. It’s time for Ehlinger to use this negativity to push him to another level.
