1. Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

For a 2,000-yard rusher and a Heisman favorite, Jonathan Taylor sure doesn’t make a ton of headlines. Perhaps this is because of Wisconsin’s dip into 8-5 territory, or perhaps it’s because of the workmanlike fashion in which Taylor produces. Either way, his numbers are special.

As a freshman in 2017, he ran for 1,977 yards and 13 touchdowns. He followed that in 2018 with 2,194 yards and 16 touchdowns. In a staggering five games last year, he eclipsed the 200 yard mark.

Taylor does face a few hurdles, however. Four of five starters on the offensive line are gone. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook left for Florida State. Defenses, more than ever, will key on Taylor.

Amazingly, even if his numbers do take a slight dip, Taylor will still likely be the best back in country by a wide margin. Entering 2019, it’s Taylor versus the field.
