Oklahoma State football has one of the best young running backs in the nation and Chuba Hubbard has shown that he has true star potential.

Justice Hill was expected to have a monster season for Oklahoma State in 2018, especially with an inexperienced quarterback under center, but he failed to reach 1,000 yards.

That shocked many, but he very well could have reached that mark if not for the share of carries he had with Chuba Hubbard. Though Hill was one of the top returning backs in the Big 12, Hubbard was just too good to keep on the bench, and Mike Gundy realized that early on.

Hubbard earned 124 carries to Hill’s 158, totaling 740 yards and seven touchdowns on 6.0 yards per carry. He was one of the Big 12’s biggest breakout stars and eased fans into the post-Hill era.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing in at 207 pounds, Hubbard has the perfect size for the running back position and his explosiveness sets him apart. He also caught 22 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns, showing that he could do a little of everything.

Having that type of all-purpose ability is terrifying for opposing defenses and he made the most of his limited carries, but won’t have much of a restriction this season as the team’s clear No. 1 back.

The star potential is there, he just has to realize it.

If Hubbard gets around 200 carries, or more, there’s a good chance he’ll break 1,000 yards and potentially even approach 1,500. He’s going to surpass 10 touchdowns and will help break in another brand new quarterback. He’s going to be Dru Brown or Spencer Sanders’ best friend.
