Previewing the offense

The Owls have a lot of questions on offense coming into this season. They will have to make due without some key pieces on offense. They are going to have to find replacements for their top two running backs Ryquell Armstead and Rob Ritrovato also, they lose Ventrell Bryant at receiver.

However, they do have options at both positions.

Senior Jager Gardner is sure to get more than the 65 carries he got last year. Junior Jeremy Jennings and redshirt freshman Kyle Dobbins also figure into the rotation.

The Owls will have some big targets at receiver this year even without the 6-3 Bryant. Junior Brandon Mack is 6-5 and was second on the team in receptions and first in touchdown catches and 6-2 Isaiah Wright was third on the team in receptions last year. Mix that in with speedster Randle Jones and his 19 yards per catch and you have a formidable receiving core.

Even with those key pieces missing, the Owls return junior quarterback Anthony Russo and four of the five members of an offensive line that was one of the best in the AAC.

If Carey can replace Armstead and Ritrovato’s production at running back — and that shouldn’t be an issue with that offensive line — Temple will have one of the better offenses in the conference.
