Big 12 football is holding its annual media days on July 15-16. What took place on day one of Big 12 Media Days that made headlines?
It’s that time of year again the official unofficial start of football with Big 12 media days. On the schedule for Monday was an address by commissioner Bob Bowlsby followed by coaches press conferences.
The coaches in attendance for the Monday session were Kansas head coach Les Miles, TCU head coach Gary Patterson, Oklahoma State‘s Mike Gundy, Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells and Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley.
Bob Bowlsby
Commissioner Bowlsby spoke first before taking questions from the media. By far the most interesting information Bowlsby shared was the creation of a Big 12 digital network in association with ESPN+. He announced that the new network would be named Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Bowlsby also discussed his opinion of transfer portal and what he thinks would be best option. He stated that he thinks that anytime a player transfers it is best for student and institution to sit out a year. However, Bowlsby did mention that he thinks if player graduates then he should get that year of eligibility back.
The commissioner also made a point to point out that the Big 12 does play defense. Bowlsby shared a statistic that of the seven teams that made a bowl six of them held their opponent under the season average for that team in scoring.
