Navy football had an incredibly disappointing 2018 season. Will the Midshipmen be able to bounce back and make a bowl game in 2019?

Navy’s 2018 season was its worst finish since 2002 when the Midshipmen won only two games. Additionally, Navy lost to both of its fellow service academies, Air Force and Army. However, the Midshipmen’s record of 3-10 does not tell the entire story.

The Midshipmen lost two games at the final seconds on 2-point conversion plays. These losses came to SMU, 30-31, and Tulane, 28-29. Furthermore, Navy was able to put up 22 points against Notre Dame and lost to UCF, in Orlando, by only 11 points.

Yes, we are talking about losses, but they are “good losses” if there is such a thing. Even if a few lucky breaks went Navy’s way in 2018, they would have only been a five or six win team, at best.

In some senses, the outlook for the Midshipmen 2019 season looks better than it did at this time last year. And yet, there is still plenty of uncertainty. Let’s dig a little deeper into the offense and defense.
