In this prediction, we’ll just take it week-by-week. Holy Cross should be an easy win for Navy given that it’s at home, everyone should be healthy, and they are an FCS opponent. East Carolina will likely be a win as well since it too is at home and the Pirates do not seem to have improve significantly from their 3-9 season in 2018. Winning in Memphis looks to be unlikely unless the weather is poor, as it was last season, and Navy can sneak out a win.
So, heading home against Air Force, we’ll call it a 2-1 record. The Midshipmen have traded wins back and forth with Air Force over the years, with the home team winning the majority of the games. Navy is home this year — Navy wins. Traveling to Tulsa will be a test for Navy, but the Midshipmen have won every game against the Golden Hurricane over the last four years. This will bring them to 4-1.
Home games against USF and Tulane may both be toss-ups. USF looks to be a better team, and Tulane is likely an opponent of equal talent. However, it is unlikely that Ken Niumatalolo loses back-to-back games at home. Somehow, the Midshipmen split this home stand and come out 5-2.
Navy will win easily at UConn, but lose in South Bend against Notre Dame. SMU will then come to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, in Annapolis, Maryland, and they will feel the pain Navy felt last year in a last second, close loss. After an emotional win, the Midshipmen will travel to Houston and not return with a victory.
Prediction: 8-4
Heading into the 2019 Army-Navy Game, Navy will hold a record of 7-4. They will finish the regular season 8-4, snapping the losing streak to Army.
