When asked how he stacks up against the rest of the SEC, Texas A&M football’s Kellen Mond believes he’s the best in the conference.

The SEC is stacked at quarterback heading into the 2019 season. You have Tua Tagovailoa who is the Heisman favorite from the conference as well as Jake Fromm from Georgia, but Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond truly believes he’s the best of the bunch.

It’s good to have that type of confidence as a junior quarterback and leader, and even though he claims he truly believes it, he had to have seen what Tagovailoa did at Alabama in his first full year as the starter — forcing multi-year starter Jalen Hurts into a transfer to Oklahoma.

Mond is the No. 3 returning passer in the SEC, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns with nine interceptions last season but there was a little concern with his completion rate of just over 57 percent.

Good for Mond, though. He may be one of the top passers in the conference, but is he truly better than Fromm, Tagovailoa, Kelly Bryant, Jake Bentley and Joe Burrow? It’s tough to say right now, but he’s got his work cut out if he’s going to prove himself in 2019. Heck, there’s solid competition with Jarrett Guarantano, Feleipe Franks and even a rising star like Matt Corral.

Texas A&M football may be one of the SEC’s biggest sleepers in 2019 and Jimbo Fisher has assembled a talented squad, but can Mond lead them past the likes of Alabama, Georgia and LSU?

A confident Mond is heading into the 2019 season with high expectations and it’s going to take a lot of work to live up to them.
