North Texas football is heading into the season with hopes of a C-USA title. Can Mason Fine and the Mean Green get the job done?

The past two years for the North Texas football program have been some of their most successful seasons in program history.

The Mean Green posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2002-04. They had nine wins last year and nine wins the year before in 2017. You would have to combine the wins from 2014, 2015 and 2016 just to get to 10 wins, only one more win than they had all of last year.

There are plenty of people to point to as to why North Texas has had so much success as of late, but it all starts with head coach Seth Littrell. He took over after the 2015 season, when North Texas only won one game.

In his three years as the head coach, his total record is 23-17 and the Mean Green have made the C-USA Championship Game once, barely missed it in 2018 and have their sites on making it back to the title game this year.

Littrell’s name was floated around last year as a candidate for some Power Five coaching jobs, but decided to stay at North Texas. It is only a matter of time before he takes a bigger coaching job, but for right now his focus is leading the Mean Green to a C-USA title.
