Michigan Football: Did Jim Harbaugh take a shot at Urban Meyer?
Jim Harbaugh was candid about his feelings toward former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. Did the Michigan football coach take shots?
Michigan and Ohio State just don’t get along — or as Michigan refers to the Buckeyes as “Ohio” and Ohio State fans refer to the Wolverines as TTUN (That Team Up North).
Respect might be there for each other’s program, but the players, coaches and fans truly hate each other.
Jim Harbaugh has grown up with that hatred, playing at Michigan in the 1980s and living the rivalry. He knows the Buckeyes don’t like him and he returns the same feelings. But he has to be content with the departure of Urban Meyer who had his number — and Michigan’s in general — with four straight victories over Harbaugh’s Wolverines.
It’s safe to say Harbaugh and Meyer aren’t going to get together for a backyard BBQ with close friends and family any time soon, especially after comments made on Tim Kawakami’s podcast on Thursday.
That’s a shot at Meyer if I’ve ever seen one, but does he have a point? It’s true, though. Everywhere Meyer has gone, controversy has followed. While he may be a great coach, some of his players’ and coaches’ off-field actions have been questionable.
Dating back to his Florida days, Meyer was known as a great ball coach who didn’t quite have control over his players’ actions off the field. The same took place in Columbus with his receivers coach Zach Smith.
As if the rivalry wasn’t heated enough, Harbaugh just threw some gasoline on the fire and maybe that’ll poke the Ohio State bear even more. Or heck, maybe Michigan will back up its coach and take down the “controversial” Buckeyes for the first time in what feels like an eternity.
