Star receiver Markiese King suffered a concussion in Season 4 of Last Chance U that should scare just about everyone associated with the sport.

The crack of the pads after a Malik Henry pass was tipped by the hands of Markiese King and into the waiting arms of a defender had more impact than people realized in real time.

The second-year receiver was laying on the ground in serious pain after being the subject of what later looked to be a targeting hit. He was checked around the neck area and dropped to the ground while trying to tackle the Fort Scott defender who intercepted a pass in Episode 5 of Netflix’s Last Chance U docu-series.

It was the fourth game of the season and King had already suffered two concussions, making his way back to the field each time, but this one seemed different.

King was on the ground for a few minutes while the trainers tended to him and he was even unresponsive when the referee came over and asked him where he was hurt. He couldn’t squeeze the trainer’s hand and looked to doze off for a second while they were on the staff was on field with him.

Then, all of a sudden, King sat up and was able to jog off the field on his own power. The star wide out claimed he was OK, but clearly something was wrong. Later on the sideline, he joked with a teammate that he definitely suffered a concussion, but wanted to go back in so he lied about it.

Concussions have become a serious matter in sports, especially football, and this exact scenario should scare the heck out of everyone.

If King can lie about not having a concussion just so he can get back into the game, how often do you think that’s happening these days? Probably a lot, and it has serious long-term effects.

The scariest part? King nearly got into a fight with teammates in the locker room after the loss to Fort Scott and had to be held back by his peers and even a coach, but he claimed later on that he didn’t remember any of that.
