Predicting the Rockets’ 2019 outcome

  • Week 1: at Kentucky (Aug. 31)
  • Week 2: BYE
  • Week 3: vs. Murray State (Sept. 14)
  • Week 4: at Colorado State (Sept. 21)
  • Week 5: vs. BYU (Sept. 28)
  • Week 6: vs. Western Michigan (Oct. 5)
  • Week 7: at Bowling Green (Oct. 12)
  • Week 8: at Ball State (Oct. 19)
  • Week 9: vs. Eastern Michigan (Oct. 26)
  • Week 10: BYE
  • Week 11: vs. Kent State (Nov. 5)
  • Week 12: vs. Northern Illinois (Nov. 13)
  • Week 13: at Buffalo (Nov. 20)
  • Week 14: at Central Michigan (Nov. 29)

The MAC West doesn’t have a clear-cut favorite, and Toledo will be explosive offensively whether Eli Peters or Mitchell Guadagni starts at quarterback. Guadagni would give Toledo a dimension that Peters doesn’t in the run game, however.

Breaking in new receivers shouldn’t be an issue because they will lean heavily on an experienced, explosive run game.

As good as Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan should be on defense, they will find it difficult to stop the Rockets. The schedule definitely favors Toledo. The Rockets’ three most difficult games (Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois) are at the Glass Bowl.

Prediction: 8-4, 6-2 MAC

The MAC West is going to be tight all season, but without any impact defensive players they are going to struggle against teams with better defenses. Put the Rockets down for eight wins and either a tie for second or outright third place in the MAC West.
