As August is approaching, one key player for Alabama football is not enrolled. What does this mean for the Crimson Tide in 2019?

Linebacker depth for Alabama football is always important, and it might take a hit this fall. Eyabi Anoma is currently not enrolled in classes, as reported by Cecil Hurt. If he is not enrolled soon, he will not be available to join the team when practices start in August.

Anoma’s time with the Tide has been interesting, to say the least. Despite his high ratings out of high school, he has been buried on the depth chart. He was also briefly in the transfer portal earlier in 2019 before removing his name. Despite the struggles, he was expecting to bring key depth for the Tide this year, with many of their top outside linebackers coming off of injuries over the past two seasons.

The Tide will likely start Terrell Lewis and Anfernee Jennings at the SAM and JACK linebacker positions. Outside of the two of them, there isn’t much depth.

If Anoma is available, he will be a key rotation piece. If not, the Tide will likely rely on Christopher Allen to step up. Allen was one of the players unavailable last season with an injury. The Tide are also without Christian Miller, their star outside linebacker last season.

Success on the outside appears to be dependent on how Terrell Lewis holds up. If he stays healthy, he might be the best player on Alabama’s star-studded defense. However, it will be hard for them to recover if he goes down with another injury.

Of course, there is still time for Anoma to enroll before it is too late. The Tide are not currently allowed to have practices. At most, he would be missing workouts. If he is back in classes by the time practices roll around, all of this will be forgotten. However, it might turn into a bigger deal for the Tide if he does not enroll soon.
