Marshall offense will be led by Isaiah Green

Heading into the 2018 season, many people around the Marshall football program believed that transfer quarterback Alex Thomson was going to be the starting quarterback. However, it was redshirt freshman Isaiah Green who trotted out in the opening game against Miami (OH) and threw for 272 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, while leading Marshall to a Week 1 win.

Green ended up missing a few games due to injury and had some up-and-down play throughout the season, but overall played well and was even named co-Conference USA Freshman of The Year. He throws a good ball downfield and showed a lot of potential in 2018.

The experience from the 2018 season will end up being huge for Green, as Marshall will rely even more on him this year, especially with the loss of star receiver Tyre Brady.

Brady was arguably the best receiver in the conference last year as he had over 1,000 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. He has moved on and is currently with the Jacksonville Jaguars while Marshall will be looking to break in a new go-to target.

Marshall lost two out of their top three receivers from 2018, but should still be productive from that position in 2019. The Herd’s No. 2 receiver from last year, Obi Obialo, returns and they bring in Kentucky-transfer Tavin Richardson.

Their running game should also help open up their passing game as they return their top two rushers from last year. Tyler King and Brenden Knox combined for over 1,000 yards rushing last year and both had four touchdowns and the exact same average per attempt at 6.1.

Marshall’s offensive line has a wealth of experience and should help lead the charge on offense. They will be able to go toe to toe with any defensive line they face and will be a big reason why Marshall can take the next step as an offense.
