What will Marshall’s 2019 record look like?

All these predictions are made under the impression that their are no injuries, suspensions or anything affecting whether a player can play or not.

Obviously this can all change before or during the season, but let’s break it down like everything is normal for each team and at the end of the season we can see how right or wrong we were.

  • Game 1: vs. VMI (W) — Take care of business against an FCS opponent.
  • Game 2: at Boise State (L) — Close loss in a game against two of the top Group of Five schools.
  • Game 3: vs. Ohio (W) — Good victory for Marshall here against one of the best MAC schools.
  • Game 4: vs. Cincinnati (L) — Cincinnati has a legit shot at winning the AAC, but this will be a close one.
  • Game 5: at Middle Tennessee (W) — Will open up conference with a win against a rebuilding Middle Tennessee.
  • Game 6: Old Dominion (W) — Marshall will take care of business against at home.
  • Game 7: at Florida Atlantic (W) — This is a close one, especially on the road, but I think Marshall finds a way to win.
  • Game 8: Western Kentucky (W) — WKU will be improved from last year, but Marshall will pull away late in the game.
  • Game 9: at Rice (W) — Rice may be taking steps in the right direction, but not enough to beat Marshall.
  • Game 10: Louisiana Tech (W) — Another close game here, but Marshall’s home field advantage will help them get the win.
  • Game 11: at Charlotte (W) — Could be a tough game on the road against an improving program, but Marshall gets the win.
  • Game 12: FIU (L) — This could be a game that determines who goes to the C-USA championship game. This is a toss up and could go either way, but as of now, FIU avenges its 2018 loss to Marshall.

Prediction: 9-3, 7-1 C-USA

We have Marshall going 9-3 this year with a chance to go to the C-USA Championship Game. The Thundering Herd have a challenging, yet manageable schedule. Their game at FAU, and home games against FIU and Louisiana Tech should be their toughest conference games this year. Marshall is one of the most balanced teams in the conference and will be aiming for a conference title.
