Last season, Rutgers football was dreadful. Can Chris Ash turn the ship around in 2019 or will the football team continue to struggle?

Obviously 2018 was a forgettable year for Rutgers.

After starting the season with a 35-7 win against Texas State, the Scarlet Knights would lose every remaining game. The Scarlet Knights were not competitive in the Big Ten (going 0-9) and overall dreadful on offense.

In 2018, the Scarlet Knights were the worst ranked scoring offense in the entire FBS. They averaged 13.5 points per game which simply will not get the job done in the Big Ten.

Chris Ash is now entering his fourth season as head coach of Rutgers and will be expected to prove he can make this team relevant in the Big Ten.

So far Ash’s best season came in 2017 when the team went 4-8. Overall Ash is 7-29 as a head coach and may very well be on the hot seat if he can’t turn this program around.

Despite the recent lack of success there are some reasons why fans can be hopeful in 2019.
